I believe…
Dare, if you will, to read the following words as if you’d never read them before. Give to them all the consideration they warrant:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all [people inherently possess] … certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. —That to secure these [unalienable] rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, —That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these [unalienable Rights, which include, but are not limited to, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness], it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish [that Government], and to institute [a] new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
The ideas behind those words, dear reader, are the only basis for Patriotism; all else is distraction or deception, whether by coincidence or by design.
