Examining the loose change related to September 11th (9/11)

September 11th, 2006 · 1 Comment

twin towers burningToday the Internet is going to be overwhelmed with news stories and blog postings about the horrors of September 11th, also known as 9-11 (nine eleven). For those of you who may be reading this but were too young to remember or understand the significance of this date, in the year 2001 the United States experienced a great tragedy: The World Trade Center in New York City (also known as the “Twin Towers”) was attacked by two commercial jet aircraft that were flown directly into the buildings. Around the same time that these two planes were flown into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. was also attacked by some kind of flying craft. A third event, known as “Flight 93″, was alleged to have been en route to crash into the White House (also in Washington, D.C.) but purportedly was foiled by a group of passengers on the plane and, instead, crash landed in Pennsylvania.

There are many theories as to who was responsible for ordering, coordinating and carrying-out these attacks. Some place responsibility with Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda. This has been the “official” position of the United States government, as well as the position popularly advertised by mainstream media.

On the opposite end of the spectrum are numerous alternative, or conspiracy, theories. I prefer “alternative” to “conspiracy” mostly due to the strong negative connotations associated with the word “conspiracy”. And while I agree that many of these alternative theories seem extremely unlikely, there are others that include such a vast collection of evidence that they deserve to be heard and considered with an open-mind. To do anything less than give them a fair hearing is, in my opinion, to hold a stubborn, irrational bias that ignores significant elements of relevant truth.

Sadly, many readers will never allow themselves to get as far as this sentence. If you have gotten this far, I want to thank you in advance for your fair- and open-minded manner of being in this world.

One of the alternative theories that I find most compelling and, therefore, disturbing, is a video produced by the Louder Than Words production company:

Louder Than Words is an independent film production company set up after the release of the controversial film Loose Change. The production company consists of Dylan Avery, Korey Rowe, and Jason Bermas. The company is also a member of the 9/11 Truth Movement and holds yearly protests in New York City on the anniversary of September 11. The film discusses a number of popular 9/11 theories.

If you care to honor the vicitms of the September 11th tragedy, I can think of no finer way to do so than to allow yourself to view the evidence, and consider the questions posed, in the Loose Change, 2nd Edition video. There is also a first edition of Loose Change (which admittedly contained several errors that were corrected in the 2nd Edition), as well as a Final Cut version due for general cinema release today but, in my opinion, Loose Change, 2nd Edition is the most interesting presentation of the three.
