Mikasa’s ‘Open Up’ wine glasses made of unbreakable Kwarx

May 24th, 2006 · 3 Comments

kwarx glassWhy am I suddenly diverging from my mostly political, privacy, integrity vein of postings in order to write about unbreakable wine glasses? I’m glad you asked.

As much as I don’t want to admit it, I am an unintentional enemy of wine glasses. My girlfriend has had more patience with me over the number of wine glasses I’ve broken. I wouldn’t say I’m clutzy, really (although she might beg to differ!).

Now, Mikasa has come to my rescue with their new ‘Open Up’ range of wineglasses:

The makers claim it is the most important revolution in glass since automated lead crystal production. Philippe Durand, Chairman of ARC International, the company which developed the process, would only say ‘Kwarx is a new material’ but jealously guarded the actual formula.

Thankfully, replacing broken wine glasses has become a concern in memory only. If only they could make the unbreakable glass spill-proof as well, all my worries would be over!

    Wow, these are kinda cool.

    I want a wine dribble-glass so that I can give my wine-snobs.
